Why was this paper selected for Editor's Choice? 

The authors provide a very thorough description of the start-up of an partial nitritation-anammox (PNA) moving bed bioreactor. I especially liked the short but excellent literature overview and the concise methods section. The key findings are presented and discussed in the same brief style but with a sufficient level of detail and context. I would have appreciated a more extensive data set in the supplementary material, but I am sure the authors will be happy to provide that to interested readers.
