Discover the Editor's Choice: From each issue of the leading journal Water Science & Technology a member of the Editorial Board selects one outstanding paper to share across IWA Publishing platforms.

IWA Publishing is pleased to announce that the 55th Editor's Choice Paper, chosen by Jo Burgess, is:

Evaluation of the effluent quality parameters of wastewater treatment plant based on uncertainty analysis and post-processing approaches (case study)

Nasim Hejabi, Seyed Mahdi Saghebian, Mohammad Taghi Aalami, Vahid Nourani

Why was this paper chosen?

The road to digital transformation in the water industry is not untrodden but needs to be tailored for each water and wastewater utility. There is not a one size fits all approach nor a single off the shelf solution that works for every utility, let alone every site. Thus, this paper makes an important contribution to the ability of the water industry to harness the power of IoT and the ability to manage assets remotely and accurately. In the post-pandemic world, where sites need to operate with minimal staff and/or staff can be subject to stay-at-home orders with little or no warning, the capability to predict the performance of a wastewater treatment plant with accuracy and operate it with precision from afar means digitalization has never been more urgent.
