Why was this paper selected for Editor's Choice?
Swine production generates more waste waters than any other animal production. In spite of significant progress made over decades, simultaneous efficient removal of extremely high BOD and N load from those wastewaters, to meet ever stringent regulations, still present a challenge. Ishimoto et al. accepted this challenge, as this not a lab or pilot scale facility, rather they conducted a full scale two year-long study and shared their findings, concerns and conclusions with us. The study is well designed and thought out and the paper is very nicely written, it comprehensively presents their approach and the results in a straightforward, easy to follow way, even for non-experts in the field. What is best about this paper – is that it is scientifically based, truly solution oriented practical work that generated really useful and applicable results.
