Many emerging contaminants pass through conventional wastewater treatment plants, contaminating surface and drinking water. The implementation of advanced oxidation processes in existing plants for emerging contaminant remediation is one of the challenges for the enhancement of water quality in the industrialised countries. This paper reports on the production of a TiO2 nano-layer on quartz wool in a relevant amount, its characterisation by X-ray diffraction and scanning electron microscopy, and its use as a photocatalyst under ultraviolet radiation for the simultaneous mineralisation of five emerging organic contaminants (benzophenone-3, benzophenone-4, carbamazepine, diclofenac, and triton X-100) dissolved in deionised water and tap water.
Climate change (CC) increases saltwater intrusion, changes water flow and alters the ecological characteristics that lead to significant impact on the farming activities in delta areas. This study defines inland aqua-ecological zones (AEZ) for CC conditions in the Mekong delta region, Vietnam.
Filtration of oil from oily wastewater via hydrophobic modified quartz sand filter medium
To improve the hydrophobicity and lipophilicity of a quartz sand filter medium, two coupling agents, DN101 and KH570, were employed. The filter medium surface wettability and oil removal efficiency before and after modification were investigated, and the characteristics are summarized.
Water reuse and desalination in Spain – challenges and opportunities
This article offers an evaluation of the reuse of reclaimed water and desalination in Spain and aims to provide an overview of the state of the art and Spanish legal framework as far as non-conventional resources are concerned.
Flood control with polders is prevalent in East China. Their impact on flood processes is critically important for flood control, but has not been well documented. The Qinhuai River Basin was selected as the study area. A HEC-RAS hydraulic model was developed to simulate and predict storm flood processes and the associated impact of polders.
