This year will be the 14th Leading Edge Conference on Water and Wastewater Technologies (LET 2017). Why is this event important?
For all those who are interested in the progress of water technology with emphasis on the transfer of research results to practical application this is the most exciting event on our globe with worldwide expertise.
This year, LET 2017 is dedicated to technology solutions in the water-energy-food interface. What do you think/hope this will achieve?
Agriculture is the most important user of water in order to produce our food also for up to 10 Billion people on our globe. Agriculture has the most important impact on nature as it completely changes the local ecosystems destroying a great part of the variety of species. For the aquatic environment we are still fighting the consequences of diffused pollution from agricultural activity which caused eutrophication in all surface waters and also affects ground water. We are faced with a real conflict of human interests where we have to find a sustainable compromise.
What, for you, has been the most significant or exciting development in water and wastewater technologies in recent years?
The relevance of specific local situations for the search of best technology, where the variety of solutions is dramatically increasing due to intensive research and development. The paradigm shift from “waste water pollution abatement for water protection” to “Used Water as a resource” seems also to be very relevant for the future development of technologies even both aspects have to be kept in mind.
